Regular caulk can help close small gaps, but most standard household sealants aren't built to stand up to a determined mouse. Mice have flexible skeletons and strong front teeth, and they can squeeze through openings as small as a quarter-inch. Once they find a soft, pliable material like basic caulk, they can often gnaw straight through it. So while caulk isn't useless, it's rarely a long-term fix on its own for commercial exclusion against mice.
The bigger issue for most facilities is the coverage. A single missed gap or a cracked seal can undo the work entirely. For businesses managing large perimeters, warehouses, or multiple entry points, inconsistent DIY sealing tends to create new weak spots just as fast as it closes old ones.
We use a commercial-grade rodent-proofing sealant (from our Flexi Armour range) as part of our exclusion work, built specifically to outperform standard caulk in demanding environments. It's designed to bond to most building substrates, holds up across a wide temperature range, and it’s considerably harder and more resistant to gnawing than typical sealants.
This sealant is just one part of a broader rodent control approach. Our technicians start with a full site inspection to map out every potential entry point, not just the obvious ones, then combine sealing with monitoring and habitat adjustments for a more complete, lasting defense against future activity.
